Author: Chef Wolfgang Hanau
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Cooking
Format: Ebook/Paperback
Chef Wolfgang Hanau, born and educated in Eastern Europe, learned to love good cooking from an early age, so it was only natural that he’d go on to become a world-renowned chef.
What isn’t so natural, however, is his willingness to share the secret recipes he’s learned over a decades-long career at some of the world’s most exclusive restaurants, luxury hotels, and resorts.
In this memoir/recipe book, he revels in dishes with a French flair, Bavarian specialties from Munich’s Oktoberfest, Switzerland’s renowned international cuisine, and dishes from the many great places he’s practiced his craft.
You’ll laugh and smile as he enjoys camelback rides in the Sahara desert, cruises on luxury ocean liners, and meets celebrities at culinary destinations that offer sun, fun, and escapes from the ordinary.
Along the way, he shares recipes that will impress your relatives and friends, including German Warm Potato Salad, the Allenstein BBQ Recipe, Bearnaise Sauce, Rainforest Acai Berry Cookies, Amstel Light Portobello Gorgonzola Burger, Golden Apple Cheddar Pancakes, Apple Jam-Filled Cookies, and Apricot-Glazed Mushrooms over Mixed Baby Greens.
There’s an exciting story and a tasty dish for everyone in this book of secret recipes and travel adventures.

How did you come up with the title of your book?
My fondest experiences in my life are the adventures in my travels to 26 countries and learning the secrets of fine cooking from great chefs - mostly ethnic foods from Europe, Asia and South America.

What is your writing environment like?
Our old Palm Beach brick house and gardens of flowers and tropical fruit trees.

What are some of the best tools available today for writers?
The creation of individual files and folder that are available at a moments notice.

What inspires you to write?
My desire to share my life.

Did you learn anything while writing this book?
How beautiful and divine life is.

This is a small book of poetry. It was written while the author was close to death from Lupus. Why, then, does pain inspire, and inspiration produce fruits to uplift and comfort. God only knows. But there is knowing here and insights only the heart knows through suffering. If you are suffering, or know someone who is, you may find these poems a salve and solution to why good people have to suffer. For, as the author once said, "The question is not why bad things happen to good people, but why good things happen to bad people; namely, why did Jesus came for me?"

Meet the Author:
Dr. Charles Rice is the husband of Dorothy Rice, R.N. He is a clinical psychologist and Dorothy still helps him in helping couples and families. She is the author of this, small, book of poetry which she wrote when very ill with Lupus before God healed her. Dorothy and I have two grown daughters and one grandson all living near us in Boise, Idaho.

My Men
Title: My Men
Author: Mira Peck
Publisher: iUniverse
Pages: 322
Genre: Fiction
Format: Ebook

Alina Sherwin has had to fight for every victory in her life. Raised in Poland, she moves to Australia with her family as a young girl. There, in the early 1970s, she becomes the first woman in her state to graduate with an engineering degree and quickly finds that her new industry won’t employ her. Undaunted by rejection from the Australian scientific community and encouraged by her new American husband, Wayne, Alina decides to move again, in hopes of finding what she desires in his homeland.

To her distress, Wayne’s unconditional love is marred by his desire for an open marriage. She is shocked—and intrigued. Convinced that Wayne would make a great father, she resolves to have a baby with him, as long as his yearning is limited to words. On a return visit to Poland, Alina regains confidence in her abilities and finds peace in leaving her childhood behind. The American society that spawned a secular constitution and a vibrant feminist movement, promises to be an inspiring new home. Alina is ready to seek fulfillment once again.

The Interview:

What was the hardest part about writing your book?

Fashioning a coherent plot.

Do you have a favorite excerpt from the book? If so, can you share it?

The ending: “Poland would forever claim my affection as the place where I blossomed, and now it was time to move on. America had its own dark elements, but a society which spawned a secular constitution and a vibrant feminist movement promised an inspiring new home. Would I be lucky yet again? I was ready to find out.”

What do you hope readers will take away after reading the book?

That women can be smart, strong and kind.

Who or what is the inspiration for the book?

People who defied stereotypes, such as Dr. Rosalind Franklin, Amelia Earhart, and Bella Abzug.

Have you had a mentor? If so, can you talk about them a little?

I had a mentor during my corporate career, but my writing benefited greatly from the constructive critiques of my writing group and several workshop leaders, especially Catherine Doty.

I have heard it said in order to be a good writer, you have to be a reader as well? Do you find this to be true? And if you are a reader, do you have a favorite genre and/or author?

I am a voracious reader in many genres: poetry, fiction, history, autobiographies, detective stories. Some favorite authors are Jon Krakauer, Howard Fast, Erica Jong, Maya Angelou, Louis de Bernieres, John Irving, Richard Zachs, Wislawa Szymborska, Julian Tuwim.

Meet the Author:

Like Alina, her protagonist in My Men, Mira Peck grew up in Poland and Australia and built a career in the United States. She has degrees in chemical engineering, business, and law. She has received a Goldfinch Prize twice for her writing (prose, 2010; poetry, 2011), and from the San Francisco 2012 Book Festival for Sour Cherry Tree, a multi-genre collection. She and her husband, David, have two children and live in Denville, New Jersey.

The subject matter covers adult affairs for children, not excluding greed, jealousy and mention of crime and drugs. One story depicts girls and boys together. But no sexual content. On that, the book could be seen as rather subdued. there are some who might regard it as slightly old-fashioned.

Saving Jesus

Title: Saving Jesus
Author: Ralph William Ausman
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Alternative History
Format: Ebook/Paperback

The canvas of history provides a complex pattern of culture, change, and conflict. Colorful individuals were often the driving forces behind the progression of history. Was there a grander purpose behind these developments, beyond the individual people, locations, and events? History often turns on a simple thought or decision by those in a position to have a significant impact on the ultimate course for humankind. What influence did some of the most significant personages in human history unknowingly contribute on the world stage, even beyond their own individual stories and experiences? Was his story truly the driving force of history, the basic thread that ties the global human experience together? Author Ralph William Ausman's novel, Saving Jesus: Resurrecting John the Baptist takes us on a journey through history, from the Holy Land, to China, India, Greece, and ancient Persia. It follows the origins of religious thought as world empires play out across the globe in preparation for the defining moment in world history: the birth of Jesus and the subsequent emergence of Christianity that would define world growth and development for the next two thousand years. Ausman looks at such questions as what would have happened had the wise men followed Jesus and his family or if John the Baptist had become Jesus's first disciple. Saving Jesus: Resurrecting John the Baptist is not intended as a refutation of the Bible. Instead, it invites you to take an interesting-and different-look at the most important events and people of history.

Meet the Author:
Ralph William Ausman earned a degree in computer science from California State University, Northridge. He then lived and worked in Europe and Singapore with his wife and daughter before returning to the United States. Ausman has always had an interest in different religions and their effects on culture and history.

EXCERPT:

Book Excerpt
In this scene, the young troubadour, Rudolph Mellor (nickname Jamello), confronts the paladin Xephard on the eve before the party’s descent into the Hel plain:

Jamello regarded the holy warrior. “Xephard the Fearless. How does one accomplish this?
The paladin’s deep voice was slow and serene. “I have thought on your question. It is one I have answered before, but never well. I will make amends now.
“Simply this …it is easier to be brave than not. The ugly part of fear is that it immobilizes one to action.” The paladin paused, gathering his thoughts. The rabbit runs, not because he is afraid, but because that is his nature. If fear covers him, he freezes in the face of danger and is taken. The secret of courage is then to do a positive action despite ones fear.
And you?asked Jamello softly.
I have no mantle of courage to slip on, having no need of such virtue. From my northern fathers, I know that the thread length of my life was wound by the Norns at the time of my birth. When it plays out, I will die. This knowledge is a mighty gift.
Is that all?
Xephard smiled warmly. No. Long ago, I gave our goddess of wisdom and war, the soldiers friend, every breath and shout and fiber of my being. I have no hidden self to fear or hurt. I have been shriven.
Nothing left to lose?” said Jamello wryly.
Exactly! beamed Xephard. He lapsed into silence. Jamello thought him done, until the temple peer lifted his head once more. The holy mistress of Lampus says that how one lives out his days is what is important. If ones deeds in this life are found worthy, Spear Goddess will gather you to Her circle of champions to live again as a chosen of her court, to be a hero most excellent.
Do you this thing, Rudolph Mellor. The paladins cloud-blue eyes gleamed in the dark as he spoke.
That said, Xephard lay back and fell apparently into untroubled sleep. Jamello groaned inwardly. He always knew that Cynthia would lure him into an inescapable fix. At last he reclined, troubled by shivering nightmares and dire, waking images such that he was surprised to find Henlees booted toe nudging him awake after the others had apparently risen with the dawn, such as it was in this bleak and blasted place.
He sat up and blinked.
